SubTER (Subsurface Technology & Engineering Research) is a DOE initiative focused on transforming safe utilization of the subsurface. The SubTER grand challenge is adaptive control of subsurface fractures and flow, important for greatly enhancing geothermal energy, carbon sequestration, oil & gas production and waste disposal while concomitantly protecting the environment.
