Potential Uses of Magmatic Structures for Unraveling the Evolution of Magmatic Systems: Field, Structural and Geochemical Techniques
A broad range of magmatic structures including mineral fabrics (foliations, lineations), magmatic folds and faults, compositionally defined internal contacts, layers, tubes, troughs, pipes, and small-scale diapirs are increasingly recognized in plutons. Instructors Scott Paterson, Cal Barnes, Elena Miranda, Vali Memeti and Katie Ardill, will (1) present a range of field, structural, and geochemical techniques to learn more about how these structures formed; (2) examine several case studies, and (3) conclude with discussion about the potential uses of these structures for unraveling the evolution of magmatic systems. A course reader and refreshments will be provided.
