529 Design, Implementation, and Evaluation of Course and Curriculum-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CURE’s) using an Integrated Mixed Methods Approach.

Course-based undergraduate research experiences (CURE’s) are a common means of delivering high-impact activities to a broader cross section of students. They can even be expanded into multi-semester, curriculum-based research experiences as we have done. However, assessing student learning in CURE’s is complex since the impacts are often highly individualized. We will demonstrate how acquisition of qualitative and quantitative data – a mixed methods approach – can be utilized to explore nuances in student outcomes. The workshop will be useful for current faculty, Ph.D. students and postdocs pursuing teaching positions, and department chairs interested in implementing and assessing undergraduate research programs. Our work is supported by NSF IUSE.
