511 CANCELLED-Earth History Visualization and Integrated Databases: TimeScale Creator Suite.

This hands-on short-course is focused on TimeScale Creator, a free JAVA package, which enables you to explore and create charts of any portion of the geologic time scale from an extensive suite of global and regional events in Earth History. The internal database suite of over 200 columns includes all major biostratigraphic zonations, evolution trees, regional scales, geomagnetic polarity scales, geochemical trends, sea-level interpretations, major large igneous provinces, hydrocarbon occurrences, and other events. There are currently 25 external datapacks developed in conjunction with national geological surveys, paleontological organizations and other groups – all standardized to the same time scale. The short-course will also review how to make well, outcrop and chronostratigraphic datapacks for this visualization system, including using on-line helpers and depth-to-age conversions. The database and visualization package are envisioned as a convenient reference tool, chart-production assistant, and a window into the geologic history of our planet. In the morning, we will cover TSCreator visualization output, and using datapacks in geologic education. In the afternoon, making datapacks (including embedded images), and simple depth-to-age conversion.Software, datapacks and manuals can be found at https://engineering.purdue.edu/Stratigraphy/tscreator. Cost is $90 for students thanks to a subsidy from the Geologic TimeScale Foundation.
