The Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences is internationally recognized for its research and scholarship on topics of fundamental science with direct relevance to society. As one of the original nine departments at the University of Iowa, we have a long tradition of excellence investigating the breadth of Earth systems, from the planet's interior to its evolution through time. We offer both M.S. and Ph.D. programs in geoscience.
