521 3D Hydrogeological Modeling. How to Build Them and Why.

This short course focuses on the process of building a 3D hydrogeological layered model. We work through different steps from understanding different data types (e.g., wells, geophysics, water levels etc.), their strengths and weaknesses, to import data into Geoscene3D (modeling software). We discuss considerations and choices in the modeling process. Participants will learn through a combination of presentations and “hands-on” work in GeoScene3D. The course will cover such topics as modeling workflow, importing and visualizing data including AEM-data, wells, logs, etc. Participants will be given hands-on experience in 3D geological modeling, make 3D visualizations of model and data and use the final 3D model for creating isopach maps, aquifer specific potentiometric maps, and exporting the model for further processing in other software. The course is aimed at people working with geology and groundwater. Focus is the geological model and the learning is not specific for the GeoScene3D software— it’s a tool being used. For the exercises in the course we will use the GeoScene3D modelling software package. To be able to carry out the exercises, the course participants will get free access to the software during the course. The participants are required to bring their own laptops with a reasonable graphics card, see more at https://www.geoscene3d.com.
