501 Geophysics For Bedrock and Formation Mapping

Used in the right way, geophysics can bring improved detail and efficiency to many bedrock and formation mapping projects; this course provides a sound introduction to some of the more common methods of achieving this. It starts with basic theory, how to select the right method for the situation in hand and looking at what the fundamentals of collecting good data are. We will look at techniques including electrical resistivity, ground penetrating radar (GPR), TEM, and seismic methods, their advantages, and necessary considerations; selected case studies will illustrate this section. The course will finish up with a Q&A session. This workshop is suitable for participants at any stage of the career tree from students to faculty members, early career geologists to seasoned professionals looking to cement their knowledge or broaden their horizons.
