512 Find Your Voice: Hazards and Science Communication in Crisis and Calm
When science is communicated well, people listen. This workshop addresses science and hazard communication in both crisis and calm and is aimed at early-career scientists. The first half of the workshop focuses on general effective communication skills and network building. The second half builds skills, like working with the media, effective communication on social media, visual communication, and best practices for communicating uncertainty, hazard, and risk. Practiced hazards-science communicators engage non-experts, inform public opinion and policy makers, inspire scientific curiosity, improve research processes, and convey the hazards and risks of natural processes. This workshop is highly interactive. Cost: US$50 professionals; US$40 students and early career professionals.
