518 CANCELED: Introduction to Drones (sUAS) in the Geosciences

This short course is designed for any unexperienced or novice users of small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS; “drones”) who are either students, faculty, or professionals. No prior experience with drones is expected or required. Although some topic categories covered may be insufficiently advanced for intermediate- to expert-sUAS users, such users are nevertheless encouraged to participate and share their working knowledge and experience. Topics covered will include state-of-the-art sUAS hardware and software basics, current U.S. national and state rules/regulations, and case studies in state-of-the-art earth-science applications, including orthomosaic and structure-from-motion (SfM) techniques. Due to logistical and legal constraints, drones will not be operated by participants during the shout course.
