501 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) Proposal Preparation Course
The National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program awards graduate students three-years of stipend and tuition support. This prestigious award allows graduate students to focus on research productivity during graduate school without the added responsibilities of teaching or research assistantships. During this three-session short course, participants will draft their personal and research statements. Attendees will receive proposal advice and editing from GRFP awardees, lectures on crafting compelling broader impacts and intellectual merit statements, and advice from former GRFP reviewers as panel-style discussions. This workshop is geared toward upper-level undergraduate and first- and second-year graduate students from historically underrepresented backgrounds (as defined by NSF [Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, American Indian, Native Alaskan, Native Pacific Islander, person with a disability]) or non-traditional pathways/identities in geoscience and/or from Minority Serving Institutions with the intention of broadening representation in GRFP awards. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents to be eligible for the GRFP and this short course.
