519 Three-Dimensional Geological Mapping and Modeling
This workshop will be the 11th in a series, mostly conducted in parallel with GSA meetings. The series has become a mini-international meeting within a meeting, as we will continue to capture new approaches to science and innovations, as well as avenues for information management and dissemination of subsurface 3D data. A new dimension of geological understanding is unfolding rapidly as new tools to acquire, manage, analyze/portray, and visualize data have become available. Powerful computers and cloud computing resources now allow us to manage and integrate large data sets to portray complex relationships and to display geoscience data in 3D. This workshop is designed for those constructing 3D geological maps and numerical models for a variety of geoscience applications and for those interested in accessing and communicating this information via interactive online platforms. Our objective is to bring together people willing to share new ideas and findings with others who may have dealt with challenges, and to provide updates from our previous ten workshops. Particularly important will be discussions of institutional workflows and how various geological surveys have dealt with various jurisdictional scientific and mapping issues.
