508 CANCELED: Multiphysics Modeling for the Geosciences

Since geoscience problems commonly have multiple coupled physical processes, multiphysics analysis can enable major scientific advances. However, community knowledge of commercial software capabilities is limited, and the user community is scattered. COMSOL is a well-established science and engineering suite of modeling modules. This short course will introduce the COMSOL multiphysics model builder, and the CFD, heat transfer, structural mechanics, and subsurface flow modules, among others. We will present geoscience examples, walk attendees though a model construction example, have time to share user models, and briefly cover the COMSOL compiler and the generation of stand-alone applications from user models. Enrollees will receive a two-week license for COMSOL and all modules. Attendees should be familiar with partial differential equations, the use of boundary/initial conditions, and the physics of their intended models. Please bring a laptop with the demo license installed before arrival (see https://www.comsol.com/system-requirements).
