519 How to Have Productive Conversations with People about Science
Have you ever wanted to talk about science but were hesitant because you didn’t want to “cause controversy?” Have you ever started talking about what you do and the person who had initially seemed interested just zoned out? You can talk with other scientists just fine, but do you feel like your conversations about science with others never seem to go well? Do you just want to be a better science communicator? This course is for you! This workshop will provide resources and tools for you to improve your science communication skills through a mix of presentations, storytelling, and hands-on activities. We’ll look at how to tailor your communication based on your audience, as well as how to engage on potentially difficult or controversial conversations more productively. We’ll also explore ways to build trust with those you’re engaging with. All educational and career levels welcome! CEUs available. US$80 professionals; US$65 students.
