523 Voices of Integrating Culture in the Earth Sciences (VOICES)
The VOICES project aims to accelerate the progress of broadening engagement of individuals with historically underrepresented identities within the Earth sciences. The project is framed by four elements that are essential to inclusivity: recognizing identity, increasing a sense of belonging, prioritizing personal security, and understanding a sense of place. Through the exploration of each of these elements, the VOICES short course will share examples of cultural and personal narratives told by diverse geoscientists as a means of expanding resources and networks for recruiting and retaining talented students and ensuring their success through responsive mentoring. By focusing on building better relationships and sharing best practices for addressing challenges diverse geoscientists often face, the course goal is to develop a community of supportive individuals and allied diversity leaders who can generate new pathways for underrepresented scholars to achieve greater equity and full participation in the geoscience disciplines.
