508 Introduction to Drones (sUAS) in the Geosciences

This short course is designed for any students, faculty, or professionals who are unexperienced or novice users of small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS; "drones”). No prior experience with drones is required. Although some topic categories covered may be insufficiently advanced for intermediate to expert sUAS users, such users are nevertheless encouraged to participate and share their working knowledge and experience. Topics covered will include state-of-the-art sUAS hardware and software basics; current US national and state rules and regulations; and case studies in state-of-the-art earth science applications, including orthomosaic and structure-from-motion (SfM) techniques. Due to logistical and legal constraints, drones will not be operated by participants during the short course.
