502 Finding and Telling Your Science Story with Data Visualization in Tableau
Earth scientists utilize a range of data types and sources. Data visualization tools (e.g., Salesforce Tableau, Microsoft PowerBI, Tibco Spotfire) provide pathways to quickly view and interrogate data, filling the gap between spreadsheets and coding. In this course, we will teach you how to build an interactive visualization to see data relationships and trends and accelerate the pathway to testing hypotheses and sharing data and research. By the end of this course, you will be able to: (1) design interactive data visualizations using a diverse range of data and plots; (2) quickly formulate science questions and generate hypotheses through data visualization; and (3) develop and share a science story by publishing it to the web. This course is aimed at undergraduate and graduate students in the earth sciences or anyone wanting to learn more about these tools. You will need a PC or MAC for this online course and will be asked to download and install Tableau Desktop Public prior to the course.
