518 OneStratigraphy Database and Its Applications in Stratigraphy and Paleobiology

OneStratigraphy is a community-driven, international collaborative initiative focused on the comprehensive integration, management, sharing, visualization, and analysis of stratigraphic and paleontological data. A primary goal of this project is to establish a global stratigraphic framework that facilitates a nuanced understanding of Earth history, the evolution of life, and other related fields. This short course is dedicated to a thorough exploration of the OneStratigraphy platform, emphasizing its applications in both scientific research and educational contexts. In addition, we will introduce essential tools utilized in stratigraphic and paleobiological studies, including but not limited to graphic correlation, c operations, rarefaction, and cutting-edge technologies exemplified by virtual reality and large language models (e.g., chatGPT). The course is structured as a synthesis of didactic lectures and practical exercises, and is tailored to provide participants with practical skills. Participants will learn how to contribute, access, download, and analyze data within the OneStratigraphy platform. To facilitate the hands-on aspect, participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops or coordinate with others to share resources. Those who complete the course will receive two free GSA ebooks of their choice, a $25 value.
