503 Using R software to download and process Water Quality Portal datasets
This workshop will help participants learn how to use the USGS’ dataRetrieval package in the R open-source programming language. The dataRetrieval package can be used to download water-quality datasets from the Water Quality Portal, which hosts data from USGS, EPA, and other agencies. In this workshop, you can learn the basics of R software, how to use dataRetrieval to download datasets, and how to use R to pivot and summarize water-quality data. Additionally, we will discuss the potential pitfalls of accessing and using “censored” values, or water-quality results with concentrations below detection limits.
