Copyright Essentials for Academic Writers
Academic writers need a solid understanding of copyright to successfully publish their work. While copyright law can be complex, the good news is that you don’t need a law degree—just a strong grasp of the fundamentals to navigate it effectively. In this session, Eric Harbeson, a copyright expert with a law degree, will introduce the basics of copyright. Topics will vary depending on the needs of attendees but may include: the scope of copyright and its exceptions (especially fair use), what authorship protects, registration and copyright enforcement, plagiarism, text and data mining, artificial intelligence, and navigating institutional or sponsor requirements that may conflict with publisher agreements.
