Abstract

Mercury injection technique was used to evaluate the petrophysical characteristics of forty samples that were obtained from the Beekmantwon interval (Sauk Sequence) of the W.L.D. #1 Well of the Niagra County, western New York. The applied pressure ranges from 14 psia to 20,000 psia. This pressure measured pore-throats sizes from 190 to 0.0003 microns. Based on the collected data, porosity values range from 0.2 % - 8.8%, air permeability values range from 0.001 mD to 0.06 mD, and recovery efficiency values range from 0% - 85%.

Microscopic observation of the pore system revealed a variety of porosity types including interparticle porosity, intercrystal porosity, moldic porosity, vugs, and micro-channel porosity.

Based on petrographic analysis, diagenetic modifications were revealed by textural variations, microstructurs, replacements, recrystallization, mineralization, cements, and dissolution. These diagenetic modifications have affected the petrophysical parameters of the Beekmantown Group.
