Abstract
This study presents results from a field experiment designed to distinguish the initiation of aeolian bedload/reptation transport (the fluid threshold) from the initiation of saltation (dynamic threshold). To do this, a bedload trap was designed capable of separating bedload from saltation transport. Saltation transport was observed using a Wenglor Fork sensor, and threshold shear velocities were calculated using three-dimensional wind data, and a vertical array of cup anemometers.
