Abstract

The process of glacial kettle formation is well known but the variables that determine the resulting morphology are poorly understood. Kettles created in a physical model lead to quantification of Woodworth’s (1893) method for estimation of paleo ice volume underneath lakelets and kettle-holes. A numerical model is used to predict the lateral extent of ice blocks, while total ice thickness is inferred through combined analysis of topographic, bathymetric, and sediment isopach maps. Tables of model sediment properties, measurement ratios, and paleo ice volume are produced during investigations. Further analysis is needed to ascertain the maximum possible thickness of buried ice blocks in this region.
