Abstract
The hydraulic connections between surface water and groundwater systems are integral in watershed functions, especially those within urban environments. Understanding the movement of water between the systems, controlled by watershed physiography, hydroclimatology and anthropogenic influences, is thus important in assessing water resources management, hydrogeology and transport processes. The purpose of this presentation is to provide an overview of the evaluation of groundwater/surface water interactions and responses in urban watersheds. Specifically discussed are the artificial changes in groundwater storage in urban environments resulting from stormwater capture and recharge and statistical observations of changes in low flow conditions in urban streams.
