Abstract

This research present the high-resolution (~1 years) paleo-precipitation record from Mato Grosso state of Brazil (South Amazonia) across the last ~1500 yrs based in stalagmites oxygen isotope records. Our record shows abrupt fluctuations in rainfall tied to variations in the intensity of the South American Monsoon System (SAMS), including the periods corresponding to the Little Ice Age (LIA), Medieval Climate Anomaly (MCA) and Current Warm Period (CWP). We show that changes in SAMS activity in the region is linked to solar variability with a distinct periodicity of 210 years, being in antiphase with precipitation in south portion of South America.

This study site is located in transitions between Amazonian rainforest and Brazilian savanna, on the way of transport of moisture from Amazonian to Southeast of Brazil, what do this region, an important place for understanding the formations of forest corridors and biology diversity.
