Abstract

In our ongoing, detailed mapping of the Coyote Mountains we have found: 1.) Active left and right lateral faulting in some instances reactivating older faults, 2), Cenozoic thrust and detachment faulting, 3). Mullion structures, 4). Landslides, several terraces and stream piracy associated with the recent episodic, differential uplift of the CM, 5).Named a new formation-Viejo, 6). Several Imperial Group transgressional-regressional marine sequences intermingling with several fresh water fanglomerates, 7). At least one Imperial Group fresh-water fanglomerate that interfingers with marine sediments, 8). Two fresh-water limestones associated with two Imperial Group fresh-water fanglomerates, 9). Imperial Group marine sediments interfingering with Alverson Formation basalts, 10). Miocene (17 Ma) Alverson Formation volcanic plugs, cinder cones, lahars flows, tuffs, etc., 11). Jurassic (~162 Ma) age igneous rocks. No Cretaceous igneous rocks have been found, 12). Folded and faulted metamorphic rocks consisting of marbles, schists, gneisses, banned cherts, cherts, quartzites, and amphibolite with pillow structures.
