Abstract

Examination of conglomerate from the central uplift of Middlesboro crater in Kentucky, shows transformation sequence of quartz pebbles into shocked stringers in the host rock. Apparent shock darkening is documented and planner differentiation fracture structures are noted here in. These shock metamorphic features may help constrain temperature gradients and be applicable to other suspected impact sites. Other shock features, including shattercones, will be discussed.
