Abstract

We report on ongoing analysis of ground-penetrating radar (GPR) data collected during the 2011 excavations of the Roman Baths at Carsulae. Subsurface anomalies identified from the 2011 grids correspond to a number of architectural and hydraulic features exposed in subsequent excavations. Sixteen GPR grids were collected in the area of the Roman Baths using a Malå 500 MHz GPR system mounted on a rough terrain cart during a brief field season from June 13th through July 1st, 2011. Profiles were typically spaced 50 cm apart within the grids and limited processing was completed in both 2D (using Rad Explorer) and 3D (using GPR Process). We are now using GPR-Slice for ongoing reanalysis working closely with project archaeologists who have refined the site grid and exposed significant features which are being restored for exhibit beneath a permanent shed.
