Abstract

Turtle Mountain Community College has been providing place-based learning experiences for area pre-service, informal, and current K-12 educators on how to integrate traditional knowledge of our local ecosystems into their curriculum to enhance student comprehension of climate change. What has provided the greatest impact to understanding what Climate Change means to Turtle Mountain is sharing traditional knowledge of the local ecosystems and phenological events. Then we take what we have learned and incorporate current technology: NASA datasets, Google Earth, Geospatial technologies, National Weather Service data, and The GLOBE Program.
