Abstract

On November 30, 2017 a 4.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in Delaware at 8:51 PM EST. The epicenter was located about 6 miles east-northwest of Dover Delaware. The earthquake was detected on 4 seismographs in Northern New York. The stations are located due north of the epicenter. The travel times of the earthquake were used to determine the crustal structure in Northeastern United States.

The travel times of the Pn , Pg, Sn, and Sg waves were determined. These times were used to calculate the density velocities of Pn=7.9km/s, Sn=4.8km/sec, Pg=6.2km/s, and Sg=3.9km/sec. These measurements agree well with Katz (1955). Crustal thickness of the Laurentian plate from Dover to upstate New York is analyzed based on this information.
