Abstract

The Peekskill Meteorite landed in Peekskill, New York on October 9, 1992. The trajectory of the meteorite goes over the Hudson River before ground fall, where it collided with a parked Chevy Malibu. According to multiple eye-witness reports, it was believed that the Peekskill Meteorite had broken up before ground fall. A core sample was taken from the Hudson River in September 2001 based on the trajectory of the meteorite and magnetism of the sample. The Peekskill meteorite samples already found are 20% of the magnetic compound nickel-iron. Therefore, the higher the magnetic susceptibility of core sample taken, the more likely it is to contain remnants of the Peekskill meteorite. Objects picked from the core sample were based on meteoritic properties, which include being magnetic, having >1% of potassium, and having a quench texture.
