Abstract

Mid-tectonic earthquakes present fundamental challenges that require further understanding and investigation. The Starr Fault System, narrow and E-W trending, resides upon the Precambrian basement rock of southeastern Ohio and reveals earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from <2.0 to 3.8. The indistinct epicenter pattern and a limited-studied fault system have prompted questions of derivation, implication, and correlation. This seismic and structural investigation is comprised of four imperative categories—surficial lineaments, fault mapping, joint orientations, and seismic data. This report will present a variety of data derived from comparable literature, regional seismicity, and manual measurements including exposed rock and strike and dips of visible bedding. Supplementary tools used for data collection, analysis, and layout include satellite images, previously constructed maps, and stereographic representation.
