Abstract

We did our undergraduate research project in Physical Geology at Delaware County Community College. Sampled were taken from three different sites and environments. The samples were taken from Darby Creek, The Delaware River, and an Ocean City New Jersey beach. All the sediment was oven dried to remove water content then sieved and sorted the samples based on Phi Size. The sediments were then compared and contrasted in order to determine the Phi sized and sediment content. Depending on where the sediment was collected, it contained different quantities of calcium, organic and mineral content. All the sediment was oven dried to remove water content then sieved and sorted the samples based on Phi Size. The results were graphed and the data was analyzed to determine how each sample was sorted. Under a stereoscope, the sediment was analyzed and photographed. A correlation between the sediment and the location of sampling was observed. Wetland Habitats had more organic material, while ocean habitats had more mineral material.
