Abstract
In general, marine geohazards in Japanese Islands are divided into mainly three categories. One is originated from tectonic activities. Our islands are situated in active margins, so that we have recorded repeated giant earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, and related submarine landslides. The other is originated from sedimentary processes as turbidity currents, dunes, weak/soft foundation, buried valleys, mud volcanoes and so on. The last category is originated from sub-tropical climate as typhoon, storms and tidal waves. We need to reduce the potential risks on these marine geohazards associated with offshore wind powers during construction and/or maintenance. The marine geohazards in each country are characterized by regional differences, so that we must consider the counterplan fitting each region.
In this paper, we demonstrate potential risks on various marine geohazards in Japan. Presumable survey plans and survey manual are discussed in this paper as well.
