Abstract

This study investigates the type of fossil content of modern carbonate loose sediments deposited on the northeastern coast of Libya. Five samples were collected from the coast of the Al Hamama and Susah regions, NE Albaydah City. The larger benthic foraminifera found in these samples are Nummulites fabianii, and Nummulites lyelli. These larger benthic foraminifera are Eocene in age, which means they are reworked foraminifera in the coastal areas, and they likely came from the Eocene outcrop in the valley areas( Darnah Formation). The recent Benthic foraminifera are Elphidium com-planatum and Lobatula lobatula, Cibicidoides pseudoungeri-anus, Cassidulina obtusa, and A.mamilla , Eponides sp. The presence of these rare modern benthic foraminifera in this area is a good indicator for high-polluted water by human activities. Most of the taxa are illustrated by SEM photographs at the University of Indiana Pennsylvania lab
