Abstract

The stratigraphy of several sections with pre-LGM events on Bylot Island indicates that multiple glacial and marine invasions occurred before MIS2. Pre-LGM stratigraphic units, previously only dated with ages on shells at >35 to >41 14C ka (AMS) and with amino acid dating, are currently being dated with IRSL. Recorrected TCN exposure ages on boulders on the Eclipse Till surface indicate ages beyond 70 ka for the Eclipse Till, the topographically highest glacial invasion around Eclipse Sound. IRSL results indicate post-glacial marine invasions episodes on Bylot Island at approximatively 120, 70, 30 and 12 ka. Several additional sections on Bylot Island, on the northeastern coast of Baffin Island and on western Baffin island are currently processed for IRSL and TCN boulder dating. At this stage, the updated chronostratigraphic framework can be correlated with glaciomarine IRD events in Baffin Bay. The extent of the post-glacial marine invasions inside the LIS throughout the Wisconsinian are still unknown.
