Abstract

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of man-made organic compounds featuring very strong C-F bonds. PFAS compounds are ubiquitous, do not degrade in the environment, and, have unique qualities that environmental professionals need to consider during site investigations. This presentation will discuss some of the geologic and hydrogeologic factors that influence plume length, retardation factors, sorption to aquifer materials, transformations along the plume, impacts of precursors, and the need for special sampling protocols.
