Abstract

As part of the Office of Legacy Management mission statement under the Department of Energy (DOE) is tasked with monitoring of disposal sites; Secondary Sources have been identified at Riverton processing site located in Riverton, Wyoming. With the long-term secondary sources identified to be Uranium and Molybdenum and with concentration above the limit of EPA drinking water standards. Concentration measurements were obtained through saturated zone tracer injections completed in several wells below the former tailings area (FTA). Another test was performed with the same procedures with the addition of alkalinity, to test the influence of added alkalinity on increasing uranium mobility. The data was then organized with the Uranium, Molybdenum, and other ions’ expected value being compared against the measured value to determine any trends in the soil. The data was as also processed through PHREEQC in order to determine possible geochemical reaction that would occur in the soil. With the objective of our project to develop a transportation model of the Uranium and Molybdenum in the Riverton ground water.
