Abstract

Iron oxide-apatite (IOA) and Iron oxide-copper-gold are crucial mineral deposit types with similar tectonic settings. The Bafq mining district is an Iron oxide-apatite in central Iran. Also known as “Kiruna-type” magnetite – apatite deposit belongs to the early Cambrian Kashmar-Kerman volcano-plutonic arc. It consists of numerous important Kiruna-type iron oxide-apatite deposits like including Chadormalu, Choghart, Chahgaz, Esfordi, Lake-Siah, Gazestan, Se-Chahoun, Mishdovan, Anomaly 14 and 21A. The aim of the research was to support the magmatic model for the formation of Bafq mining district by measuring iron isotopes (δ56Fe (‰)) of iron ore samples from Bafq. For the experiment, 20 magnetite samples from XX different deposits of Bafq were analyzed. The results of the experiment indicated that the δ56Fe (‰) from Bafq was slightly greater than the other previously average measured values of δ56Fe (‰) from Bafq at 0.66 per mil which slightly greater than average concentration in IOA (0.44 ppm) and IOCG (-0.08 ppm) deposits from all around the world. Thus, it can be concluded that the formation of IOA deposits of the Bafq mining district is magmatic in origin.
