27 From Data to Decision: Integrating Geophysics, Data Systems, and Modeling for Aquifer Characterization in Data-Sparse Regions (Posters)

Advances in data acquisition, management, and analytics are transforming water-resources research in semi-arid, data-sparse regions. This session highlights the integration of geophysics, data systems, and modeling, including AEM, legacy data digitization, and cloud platforms. Contributions demonstrate how advances in data collection, management, analysis, and modeling  approaches improve the characterization of fresh and brackish groundwater to support management, recharge, and long-term planning.

Abstract

Agencies and programs holding legacy water data often lack a clear starting point to evaluate what they have, plan a migration, and execute it. We present a set of tools, methods, guides, and resources that practitioners can use to (1) assess their current data assets and systems, (2) research and select migration and modernization approaches, (3) chart a path from legacy systems to a modern stack, and (4) build a roadmap with milestones and accountability. The content draws on experience from the NMBGMR–Lakeraven partnership and is intended for state surveys, water agencies, and others considering or undertaking similar work. Poster authors will be available to discuss how these resources can be adapted to your context and to share lessons from the field.
