Abstract

Climate change has been a growing concern for the past couple of decades. One related issue yet to be fully explored is the impact of climate change on four migratory birds in Pennsylvania: Chimney Shift, Scarlet Tanger, Wood Thrush, and Bobolink. Using a 54-year archive (1966-2019) of bird count data from the North American Breeding Bird Survey and climatological temperature data for central Pennsylvania, two relationships were explored: a) temporal trends in bird counts, and b) bird counts and Pennsylvania temperature. Results reveal mixed conclusions for both analyses. Some relationships exhibited statistically significant positive trends (at the 95% confidence level), others showed statistically significant negative trends, with the remaining relationships not statistically significant.
