19 Depositional systems and resource distribution in eastern and southern North America: from orogens to coastal plains
We welcome studies related to the sourcing, dispersal, and deposition of clastic sediments from the hinterlands to the coast, including the provenance, paleogeography, sedimentology, and economic significance of these deposits.

Abstract
Oxbow Lakes serve as indicators of previous river position, but can also help to identify patterns in river flow route changes. The research presented here is the first step of the overarching research plan, which is to determine where and when the Red River shifted its course. Using present and historical aerial imagery, current oxbow lakes were identified and their attachment to the main channel of the Red River was determined as well as the timing of their cutoff. Piecing together the timing of the cutoff, historic flow routes of the Red River were created and are presented here. Interpretations as to anthropogenic influences in the flow of the Red River are also presented. Future work will include dendrochronology and lake sediment analysis to identify the cutoff of lakes that pre-date aerial imagery.
