4 Near-Surface Geophysics and Geoarchaeology: Methods and Mapping
We invite abstracts that will highlight applied methodologies and mapping projects, including near-surface geophysics (e.g., GPR, resistivity, magnetometry), remote sensing (e.g., drones, LiDAR), or comparisons in GPS accuracy and precision (e.g., GNSS, N-Trip, RTK)

Abstract
Archaeologists have long utilized multidisciplinary methods to determine the location of archaeological sites with the most sensitive concealing human burials. The methods they utilize are often developed by geologists and include remote sensing methods and shallow surface geophysics. More recently these methods have been combined with biosensors, or more specifically the olfactory system of specially trained canines to aid in the detection of human burials.
This paper will review the specific methodology that has been utilized to successfully conduct surveys throughout the United States using a multidisciplinary approach combining results from remote sensing, shallow surface geophysics, and archaeological human remains detection dogs (AHRDD). The case studies presented will include work to locate family cemeteries, unknown cemeteries of the enslaved, and graves related to military conflicts.
