289 Estimating Natural Resources Using Geoscience Data
Methods to estimate the availability, location, and quantity of natural resources (e.g., geothermal, petroleum, critical minerals) vary by resource type, scale, and data availability. This session addresses modeling that targets any of these aspects.

Abstract
A subsurface well-log study of the Upper Cretaceous Graneros, Greenhorn, Carlile and Niobrara Formations was conducted across Dundy, Hitchcock, Lincoln, Hayes, Chase, and Perkins counties in southwestern Nebraska. In this study thirty-two (32) well-logs were used to create a grid of well-log cross sections across the study area. From this isopach maps of each unit and structure contour maps of the base of the Niobrara Formation and the X bentonite marker were developed.
These maps revealed a southeastward shallowing of the major stratigraphic units, with the X bentonite marker reaching its greatest depth of 3,100 feet in the northwest. Thickness variations reveal a southward thickening of the Niobrara Formation, a southwestward thickening of the Greenhorn Formation, and a southeastward thickening of the Graneros Shale.
