Abstract

Large scale scientific observatories have a unique set of problems because of the diversity of the constituent communities and the breadth of data that flows through them. We have developed visualization displays and tools to interpret large amounts of disparate data on platforms that are accessible to earth scientists.

One platform is the GeoWall, sub $10,000 stereo projection system which has been deployed over 400 times in over 90 institutions. It runs a number of open source and public domain packages that can be used to design, maintain and analyze data from observatories.

A second is the GeoWall 2. The ultra high resolution, 25-100,000,000 pixel, display is uniquely suitable for the needs of a collaborative data fusion environment which can be reconfigured on the fly.
