Abstract

Are you interested in spending your summer in a National Park or National Forest working on an exciting geoscience field project? The GeoCorps America program offered through GSA helps connect geoscientists to field projects in order for participants to gain experience or share their knowledge. GSA works through a special partnership with the National Park Service, US Forest Service, and Bureau of Land Management to offer 35 or more positions each year in specialty geoscience areas. These positions are hosted during the summer months and paid a stipend.

The goals of the GeoCorps program are to: (a) increase the number of geoscientists to conduct education, research, and resource management projects on America's public lands; (b) enhance resource managers' and policy makers' geoscience knowledge, so that better decisions will be made regarding the management of natural resources and mitigation of geological hazards; (c) provide hands-on experience for students who are working toward careers in industry, academia, or government; (d) raise the public's knowledge and awareness of the value of geoscience resources on public lands.
