Abstract

Preparing tomorrow’s scientists, decision makers, and citizens to seize opportunity and prosperity in a post-carbon and resilient future is of utmost importance. In order to respond, manage, and adapt to these changes, citizens of all ages need to know how to find accurate, up-to-date information, knowledge of the sciences, and analytical skills to make responsible decisions and long-term plans regarding these challenging topics. The Climate Literacy and Energy Awareness Network (CLEAN, http://cleanet.org) provides

1) teaching resources for educators through the CLEAN Collection as well as pedagogical support for teaching climate and energy science and

2) Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) search interfaces for the collection and examples of how to use the collection for NGSS-congruent teaching.

This poster provides an overview of the CLEAN web portal, NGSS search capabilities, and model units in development processes. We showcase the CLEAN Collection, comprised of 700+ resources (activities, videos, visualizations, and short demonstrations and experiments), that were reviewed for scientific accuracy, pedagogical effectiveness, and technical quality. Resources were tagged for alignment with the NGSS, and allow users to search by NGSS, topic, grade level, among other filters. We also summarize the updated version of the Teaching Climate and Energy Pedagogical support pages that outline common misconceptions and challenges as well as examples for NGSS teaching.
